But we also believe that the most dangerous thing we could do for our clients, for our industry, and for society, is stay quiet about what we’re watching happen in real time.
AI is beginning to displace jobs, roughly 55,000 annually in the US as of 2025, according to tracked layoff data. Net job creation currently still outpaces those losses, and the World Economic Forum, Goldman Sachs, and the Bureau of Labor Statistics all project that AI will transform far more roles than it eliminates outright. Software developers, for example, are projected by the BLS to grow 17.9% by 2033. The story isn’t mass unemployment, it’s mass disruption of what every job actually requires.
But underneath that disruption, something quieter is happening. Right now, before the labour market fully recalibrates, AI is replacing something even more foundational: the willingness to think.
The Illusion of Building
Ask around in any entrepreneurial circle today and you’ll find someone who tells you they “built a company” using ChatGPT. They generated the business plan. They used Claude to write the code. They had an AI draft the pitch deck, the brand voice, the go-to-market strategy.
And then… nothing. The execution never came.
Here’s a truth the productivity-guru content machine won’t post: ideas have never been the bottleneck. The world has always had an abundance of ideas. What it has always lacked, and what AI cannot manufacture, is the discipline, domain knowledge, and pain tolerance required to bring something real into the world.
AI hands you a map. But it cannot make you walk the road.
When people confuse the map for the journey, you end up with what we’re increasingly seeing: individuals who believe they have built something because they have generated something. Two very different things.
The Quiet Devaluation of Expertise
There is a doctor who spent a decade in medical school and residency. A software engineer who spent years debugging systems at 2am until the underlying logic finally clicked. A researcher who read thousands of papers before they could credibly contribute one.
Now there is a person with a ChatGPT subscription who can generate a convincing-sounding answer in every one of those domains in under thirty seconds.
We are not saying the AI output is equivalent. We are saying that society is beginning to treat it as if it is.
This is the quiet devaluation happening beneath the surface. It’s not that experts are being replaced by machines, it’s that the years of foundational work that created those experts are being framed as unnecessary. Why learn the fundamentals when the AI can just tell you?
Here’s why: because when the AI is wrong, and it is wrong, regularly, you will not know.
The person who learned to code from first principles knows when the generated code is brittle, inefficient, or quietly introducing a bug. The person who “codes with Cursor” without that foundation is fishing in the dark, accepting whatever surfaces without the ability to evaluate it.
This is not a criticism of ambition. It’s a warning about foundations.
We Are Paying Ourselves Out of Intelligence
One of the most striking phrases to come out of a recent internal conversation at InsytSolutions was this: “Society is at risk of paying ourselves out of intelligence.”
Think about that carefully.
We are spending money, real, significant money, on subscriptions, credits, and compute that offload our cognitive load. And the more we offload, the less we exercise the mental muscles that made us capable in the first place. It’s the intellectual equivalent of paying for a gym membership and then taking the elevator everywhere.
The cost isn’t just financial. AI data centers consume extraordinary amounts of water and energy. Every query, every generated image, every auto-completed function call has an environmental price tag that never appears on the invoice. We are paying, environmentally, financially, and cognitively for the privilege of thinking less.
This is not sustainable. And it’s not smart.
Google Taught Us to Stop Remembering. AI Is Teaching Us to Stop Reasoning.
Cast your mind back to the early internet. We memorized phone numbers. We knew how to navigate to places. We retained facts because retention was survival.
Then search engines arrived, and we collectively outsourced our memory. Why remember when you can just look it up?
That was phase one.
Phase two is more insidious. Search engines now bury ten blue links under AI-generated summaries. Google tells you the answer before you’ve had a chance to read the source, evaluate the author, consider the context. The result is a generation of users who receive conclusions without ever engaging in the process of forming them.
We used to criticize Wikipedia because anyone could edit it. We were right to be skeptical, the source mattered. But now we accept AI-generated content as gospel, despite the fact that major models are trained on datasets that mix curated books and academic papers with vast quantities of filtered web content – sources of wildly varying quality – and that even the best of them hallucinate confidently and cannot always signal when they’re drawing from rigorous research versus low-quality noise.
The credibility standards we once applied to information have eroded dramatically. And the more we feed AI into the top of our information diet, the less discerning we become about what’s actually nourishing.
So What Are We Actually Saying?
We are an AI automation firm. We are not anti-AI. We will continue building, deploying, and advocating for intelligent automation in the right contexts.
But we are pro-intelligence. We are pro-expertise. And we are pro-honesty about what AI is and is not.
AI is a tool. One of the most powerful tools ever built. A master craftsperson with theright tools can build extraordinary things. But the tool doesn’t make the craftsperson. The knowledge, judgment, and years of developed intuition do.
The future we want to build for our clients and for society, is one where AI amplifies human intelligence rather than atrophying it. Where the engineer uses AI to write boilerplate faster, not to avoid understanding what the boilerplate is doing. Where the researcher uses AI to surface literature faster, not to skip reading it. Where the entrepreneur uses AI to test ideas faster, not to mistake the idea for the business.
This matters because the data is clear: AI won’t eliminate most professions. It will redefine what competence in those professions looks like. The roles that survive and thrive won’t be the ones that resisted AI — they’ll be the ones that learned to direct it, interrogate it, and take ownership of its output. Which means the humans inside those roles need to be more capable, not less.
That distinction is everything.
What We’re Asking
We’re asking for a different kind of relationship with AI. One built on: Curiosity over convenience. Use AI to go deeper, not to go shallower.
Validation over acceptance. When AI gives you an answer, ask yourself: do I know enoughto know if this is right?
Execution over generation. The idea is the starting line, not the finish line.
Investment in fundamentals. The irreplaceable competitive advantage in an AI-saturated
world is knowing your domain well enough to direct the tools, evaluate the output, and take responsibility for the result.
The conversation we need to start having in boardrooms, in classrooms, in our own companies is not “how do we use AI more?” It’s “how do we use AI better, without losing what makes us worth augmenting in the first place?”
